God is not a legalist. He doesn’t have a list of do’s and don’t; He looks at each one of us individually. God looks at the heart, that means He cares about our desires, as well as our motives. He cares about the difference between a believer making a mistake and those basking in wickedness.

“the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” (1Samuel 16:7b)

Moreover, those who are in Christ no longer want to sin because the Holy Spirit abides within and changes their/our hearts:

“Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.” (1John 3:7-9)

Believers in Christ are changed in the their hearts; making them incapable of habitual sin.

Struggling with sin is different, as the heart of one who struggles wants desperately to change. For some it’s not so easy to let go of the control, so they are not in Christ as readily as most. However, these verses refer to desires and how they change when one is truly in Christ.

God hates sin because it takes us away from Him, that’s why He granted us repentance in order to call us back home, so those in Christ need only to come to His Throne in all humility when they/we sin.

“And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.” (2Timothy 2:24-26)

At the end of this passage, we can also see that the devil tries to intice us to sin, therefore, believers must be diligent to recognize and shun evil.

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy” (John 10:10a)

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1Peter 5:8)

God’s lists reveal the hearts of the unrighteous; reflecting their wicked intents. These examples are there to highlight the lusts of the unsaved, so we know to be aware of their poison, and also as a warning against these things.

These lists shine a light on what a truly wicked heart looks like; creating a picture of evil for the godly to shun and a mirror for the ungodly, in which to see themselves.

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.” (1Corinthians 6:9-10)

“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

“But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.” (Revelation 22:15)

God cares about the whole of the matter; all that we are going through and He judges accordingly, with no lists or rules, just fairness and perfect justice.

See Genesis 4:7 Proverbs 16:2 & 21:2Matthew 6:1-18Galatians 1:101Corinthians 4:51Timothy 1:5Colossians 3:171John 3:12 & James 4:1-17.

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Give yourself over to HIM and be amazed at the miraculous work that occurs within you. All you have to do is allow it, cooperate with it and not resist the changes God wants to make in you……..
